Wackeeen!!!
I am in Goeteborg, and I just took a shower after sitting on straw and mud in Wacken. But it was an INCREDIBLE, UNFORGETTABLE experience! Living in a world of 50,000 metalheads and 70 great bands that play live in front of you and you jump, sing, and shout with them? What more could one want?
I have a lot of thoughts to share, but I wanted to get this started before I got to sleep--last time I slept on a bed rather than a floor or train was two days ago.
In random order:
- When I get married some day, I´m going to Wacken for my honeymoon. So if you are thinking of marrying me, you better start preparing now :D
- Wacken was a lot less violent than expected! In fact, people were nice and there was almost no bothering by drunken fools.
- I counted band shirts. Those counts show that Opeth is a pretty mainstream band, as I always thought :P Also, Anathema - 0 (well, as expected), Paradise Lost - a few, Arcturus - one, except it was not a shirt, but some girl´s really, really short pants / underwear :P
- There were people from all over the world, but mostly Germany of course. I saw different flags, including a Bulgarian and a Romanian one ;)
- There´s nothing better than having Peter Steele, Josh Silver, Kenny Hickey, and Johnny Kelly right in front of your eyes where you can scream your lungs out singing ´Jesus Christ looks like me´ and ´Aaah, let me love you, to... death´, at the same time jumping with a bunch of other people.
- These festivals create a whole different world in which you live for a few days, and then it´s kind of lonely when you leave.
- But I still see metalheads with huge backpacks at the main train stations! It´s amazing to know you´ve been there, at this great event where so many people from so many places also came!
- True metal heads tend to be quite stupid sometimes, but I still find many of them pretty cool.
- At such an event, you actually forget there are things like food. Nothing else is important, you just want to sit or stand on the grass and enjoy the bliss.
Off to sleep now, cause Goeteborg, Oslo, Berlin, and Praga are waiting for me! :D
